Subj: Infection?
Date: 9/19/2008
Hi, I’m not sexually active but I tend to get yeast infections whenever my boyfriend fingers me. I had one two months ago then took over the counter cream medication and it cleared it up. Now I think I have it again. Are my boyfriend’s fingers giving me an infection?
Izzy
AskDocWeb: That is quite possible and would seem to be likely.
Subj: Extreme irritation
Date: 10/10/2008
Please help, every time I get my period, it feels like I get a yeast infection. I got extreme irritation around the vaginal entrance and all the symptoms of yeast, the feeling hot, the itching everywhere even in my butt. I treat it with diflucon and it goes away but everytime I get my period it comes back. I changed my pads and tampons and still. Help what can I do to stop this from happening?
Amelia
AskDocWeb: You might take time to review the common causes of yeast infection. Compare the list with your situation and behavior to see what might be in common.
Subj: Water and hydrogen peroxide
Date: 10/30/2008
I had my first yeast infection and I went to the ER and was give the 3 day treatment. After that I’m still itchy down there. I dont have the discharge just the itch. I was wondering if anyone has tried the water and hydrongen peroxide treatment. Thank you in advance!
Ms Curious
AskDocWeb: One reader reported good results with a once a day water and hydrogen peroxide douche and said to continue for one day after the symptoms disappear.
Subj: Pass a yeast infection?
Date: 12/1/2008
While on fluconazole can you still pass a yeast infection to your male parter… and what about oral sex?
Sarah
AskDocWeb: It is possible to pass on the yeast infection until you complete treatment. There is no danger of passing on the infection by oral sex if the male is on the receiving side but for the other way around, it could be unpleasant until after treatment.
Subj: Passing infection back and forth?
Date: 2/6/2009
Is it normal for a yeast infection to go away and then come back? I seem to have yeast infections a lot and it’s been going on for years. I was asked by my Dr if I normally had a high discharge and I said usually yes. She said if so then it wasn’t anything to worry about. But when it starts to itch really bad then I consider it a yeast infection. Is there a difference between the two? I am not over weight, and physically am pretty athletic. But I would say have at least 4 if not more yeast infections a year. I’ve been with my husband for 7 years and never really had these problems since being with him, so maybe we are passing it back and forth? We are trying to get pregnant now so I guess things I have dismissed in the past are more concerning me now. Also when I get my period each month follows by about 12 days from the previous months start date. Though I’ve never been regular besides when on the pill is this ok?
Kirsten
AskDocWeb: Yes, it is possible to pass a yeast infection back and forth. You might want to review the causes of yeast infection and consider if any of those apply to you.
Subj: I’m thrilled
Date: 3/24/2009
I had recurring yeast infections for 30 years. Nothing seemed to make them go away for long, even large lengthy doses of Diflucan, which seemed to trigger other problems like bladder infections and diverticulitis. Turned out I have Celiac disease and in 10 months of being gluten-free I’ve not had one yeast infection. I’m thrilled. I have a diabetic friend who had the same problem until she completely eliminated sugar. Not easy solutions, but worth it.

Subj: I really hate to be such a bother
Date: 4/7/2009
Please help. I was scheduled for a hysterectomy and a bladder tack, but about 2 weeks before got a cold and had a couple rounds of celestone shots and rocephyn shots plus avalox pills by mouth before the surgery. While I was in the hospital, I began itching and informed the OB/GYN but he felt it was from the pain pump and gave me some harmone cream when I came home. I used it for a week or so and the itching got worse and I began discharging really bad and called the doctor back after a couple of weeks in tears. He had me come in and felt I had a UTI and his nurse did a cath in the office, which caused me to have bladder spasms along with the yeast. When she did the cath, she nearly screamed when she saw what a shape I was in down there and ran and got the doctor and he then discovered that I had the yeast. I have gone through 4 rounds of the power pill, 4 rounds of .4 mg. cream with no relief. I called my pharmacist today and he feels that I may have this stuff in my blood stream and need to call the ob/gyn back. I really hate to be such a bother to him since I go back for my next check up on the 13th, but I am miserable. Do you have any suggestions? I am wondering sometimes, did I get a staph in the hospital or what? Wow, this is miserable. Thanks so much for any help offered.
Jamie
AskDocWeb: Many staph infections do occur in hospitals so that is a real possibility. You might find it helpful to consider the fact that your doctor is getting paid to perform a service. It is not a bother for your doctor to perform additional services, that is their profession. It is their job to provide you with medical services so don’t be concerned about being a bother. Some cases are more complicated or interesting than others are and you may be giving them a challenge that they appreciate.
Subj: Every four month
Date: 4/14/2009
Hi, I have had recurring yeast. It started after I spent with another man other than my husband and I now get it like after every four month mostly after my monthly period. I have since gone for HIV test which turned negative. Please assist this problem is just annoying.
Susan
AskDocWeb: We will have to pass this one on to readers. Does anyone have an idea why this would only show up every four months?

Subj: Vaginal infection
Date: 5/18/2009
My boyfriend got an upset stomache and diarhea after oral sex. I just got a check and had a vaginal infection two weeks ago. I took antibiotics for 7 full days.
Kelli
AskDocWeb: Hopefully you learned a valuable lesson about avoiding oral sex when you have a vaginal infection.
Subj: I notice this
Date: 5/27/2009
I have a yeast infection, I think it cleared up, but I notice this after I started my period. Do this mean it’s gone?
Kelly
AskDocWeb: What was it that you noticed?
Subj: Got the same symptoms, again
Date: 5/30/2009
I got a yeast infection a few days after I had sex. I was treated with the oral med and it was cleared up. I than had sex again with the same person and 4-5 days later got the same symptoms and they were intensified. I got the 7 day cream treatment and was curious if my boyfriend is giving back the infection to me? If so what types of meds should he be taking so we both can be clear and have a normal sex life?
Bonnie
AskDocWeb: Yes, it is possible to pass a yeast infection back and forth between partners. Even men who have no symptoms may harbor yeast organisms, especially in the foreskin of an uncircumcized penis. Men should be encouraged to wash thoroughly and use an antifungal cream on their genitals.
Subj: Yeast odor
Date: 9/29/2009
My husband has a yeast like yeast oder in his genital area and no matter how many times he washes it does not go away. No other symtoms that generally go along with yeast infections other than he has had adult acne that flares up from time to time which has a very different oder that is even more unplesant. He is 63 years old – any help would be so nice thank you.

AskDocWeb: It may require something a little stronger than just soap and water to get rid of a yeast infection. You might ask your pharmacist to recommend something over-the-counter or talk to your doctor.
Subj: Anabolic steroids
Date: 10/12/2009
I have not recently had a problem with yeast infections, I mean occasion the week before my period but that is it. About two weeks after my boyfriend started taking his anabolic steroids again I developed a yeast infection. Does this have anything to do with it? Thanks
Shayna
AskDocWeb: When most people hear the phrase yeast infection, they think of the vaginal yeast infections that are common among women. However, it’s important to note that men can also get a yeast infection. Steroids have been strongly correlated with an increase in Candida yeast infection rates. If you are having sex with someone on steriods it can affect your cycle and give you a yeast infection.
Subj: Yeast infection that doesn’t itch?
Date: 11/12/2009
I am 60 years old, have been menopausal for 15 years, and until the last year, have suffered with yeast infections due to one reason or another; e.g., originally caught one from doing laundry with my aunt when I was 14, passed one back and forth with my last husband, always got one when I used a general spectrum antibiotic. This year, however, I thought I hadn’t had any, although because of a dental problem, I was on antibiotics for quite some time during the summer. Then about six weeks ago, I went to my internist for a couple of things including a Papp smear, and she noted, “Do you know you have quite a bad yeast infection?” I didn’t. All my life these things have itched like nothing I can describe. My question is: Is there anything known by you, or that you can find in the literature that would explain why, now, I would stop itching from them? By the way, I cleared that one away with diflucan, but am now again taking penicillin for another dental problem, and most likely have another yeast infection. I’m quite curious about the change in symptoms in my body… Any ideas?
Jackie
AskDocWeb: You might want to have a vaginal discharge smear study done to identify the exact cause of the infection. According to Michael Spence, M.D., director of the Public Health and Preventive Medicine Program at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, “If a woman does not itch, it’s unlikely that she has a yeast infection.”
Subj: Still having vaginal discharge and itching
Date: 12/10/2009
I went to the Dr last Friday and was treated with a pill for a yeast infection, but I am still having a lot of vaginal discharge and it’s itching. What can I do?
Concerned
AskDocWeb: Sometimes yeast infections require more than one round of treatment so consider checking back with your doctor. Here are a few things that others have found to help with the itching;
- A&D ointment
- Bathing with white vinegar
- Balmex
- Benadryl
- Feminine wash
- Hydrocortizone cream
- Making a paste of water and baking soda to leave on overnight.
