Subj: Zoloft nightmare
Date: 1/1/2008
This medication was a nightmare for me. While taking this horrible med, I became VERY SUICIDAL and even made a suicide attempt. I was never this suicidal in my entire life. I even became more depressed that I lost interest in everything. I lost almost all my hair. Some of the other side effects were: – Incontinence bladder. -Sweets craving. -Noise intolerance. I have to say zoloft did absolutely nothing but to increase my depression and turn me suicidal. I don’t even know why this medication has been labeled as an antidepressant! Just a warning to all who consider taking this med., please be careful as it can have VERY horrible side effects, at least it did for me.

Subj: Stop cold turkey?
Date: 1/3/2008
I have been on zoloft for 3 weeks, I took 25 mg for the first week and 50-mg for a 10 days and 75 mg for 3 days. I would like to stop cold turkey. Do you think there will be any side effects?

H.B.

AskDocWeb: Do not stop taking Zoloft without first talking to your doctor. You may experience unpleasant side effects if you stop taking Zoloft suddenly.

Subj: Super depressed
Date: 1/7/2008
I have been on zoloft for about eight months and recently had the worst of it. I skipped taking it for three days cause I had the flu. So now I’m super depressed. I want to kill myself more than ever and have thoughts of murdering or stabbing my boyfriend or anyone. Knifes used to freak me out but now I wonder how it would feel to stab or be stabbed. I need a new med before I turn more psychotic. that’s how I feel. Very crazy and physcho.

Subj: Serotonin Syndrome
Date: 1/8/2008
I was put on Zoloft for post partum depression and at first it was like a miracle drug I was back to normal then after the 3rd month or so it started not to work. I was having trouble with small things like getting a shower and I was unable to stay awake even though I didn’t want to sleep I couldn’t help it. My hair fell out so much in the shower that it clogged the drain every time. I had huge purple bruises that did not hurt on my legs and night sweats. I had thoughts of suicide even though I knew deep down that was not what I wanted to do. I also had very vivid nightmares. I ended up in the hospital for 2 nights; they discontinued the drug all at once no weaning me off and they said I had Serotonin Syndrome. I still have a massive amount of hair loss I am surprised I am not bald yet and I still have horrible nightmares even though I haven’t take it for over a month. What do I do?

Subj: Great results
Date: 1/14/2008
I have been on zoloft since I was 16 and am now 22. I have not had any bad side affects. I don’t sleep all the time, I have an appetite and am in general pleasant to be around now. I think that as with any drug it works for some people and doesn’t for others. Give it a chance if it is something that your doctor recommends. If it doesn’t work than try something else. Like I said I have had great results with no side affects.

Subj: Really bad nightmares
Date: 1/17/2008
I have been talking zoloft for the past 4 months.. I decided it would try to stop it because it is not a habit I want to get into. I have been having really bad nightmares and I want to know will these stop or just continue, should I just keep taking zoloft?

Candi

AskDocWeb: They may or may not stop so consult with your physician and ask him about alternatives.

Subj: Nightmares and no sex drive
Date: 1/18/2008
I was on Zoloft for 2 months and it took away my sex drive completely. On top of that it was giving me nightmares every single night that literally made me feel like I belonged in a mental institution. My doc switched me to Celexa, but so far, same story…

Subj: Difficult time stopping
Date: 1/20/2008
HI, Be real sure you need this drug before starting, I had a very difficult time stopping this med, you need to reduce your dosage in very small increments over at least weekly to bi-weekly changes. Too fast and you will feel it. I stopped using Zoloft because it was too good at numbing your emotions, and many sensations. Yes I was having panic attacks but it may have been triggered by sleep apnea, and reflux. It took me 2 years to figure it out. My sleep Dr says zoloft can surpress normal reflexes to wake up during breathing problems that’s probably why it prevents panic attacks. After seeing a sleep Dr, for about 4 months I stopped taking the Zoloft. Doing OK now. Good luck to all if your having serious mental issues they should always check you out for sleep issues many mental problems may be related to sleep issues. This can create the problems that are difficult to diagnose, nocturnal panic attacks, choking attacks and so on, many long term depression, start out as sleep problems.

Subj: Weaning off Zoloft
Date: 1/21/2008
I’ve been on zoloft 50mg for 2.5yrs and want to get off of it. I was given 25mg from my Dr., which I started taking immediately. On the 3rd night I started feeling nauseous and got headaches. Is this normal? Will it get better? After I’m on 25mg for 1 month, I was going to go every other day taking the 25mg. Is that correct? What’s the best way to reduce symptoms.

Stefany

AskDocWeb: It sounds like the nausea and headaches might be from a withdrawal process because of the lowered dosage. Your body is used to the stronger dosage but it will adjust and it will get better. Please follow your doctor’s instructions when weaning off this drug.

Subj: Weight loss, hair loss, nightmares, extreme exhaustion
Date: 1/23/2008
My 16 year old daughter is taking 50mg of Zoloft for anxiety disorder. She is experiencing weight loss, hair loss, nightmares, extreme exhaustion. I’m grateful to have found this site. Her doctor has indicated he had never heard of these side effects while using Zoloft..apparently he is grossly misinformed!

Mary

AskDocWeb: Hair loss and nightmares (abnormal dreams) are listed as infrequent side effects. Fatigue is reported by 12% of Zoloft users.

Subj: Immune to Zoloft?
Date: 1/27/2008
I’ve been taking zoloft for 15 years. Is my body immuned to this medication. Can the human body build up a resistance to the medication to a point where it does not work anymore? Could someone let me know? Thank you,

Pam

AskDocWeb: Yes, it is called building up a tolerance. This happens with many drugs and over time, they gradually loose effectiveness.

Subj: Had a big seizure
Date: 1/28/2008
I have been prescribed zoloft about 3 weeks ago I started on 25mg for 6 days and then went up to 50mg – I know that drinking should be done in moderation but I drank probably 4 maybe 5 glasses of wine the other evening and had a big seizure – I was not conscious through this and was like this for about 6 minutes I had uncontrollable twitching all over for the next 45 mins – I went to the GP (as I was away on holidays she was not my GP) and she said it was most likely a reaction solely due to the drug but the alcohol wasn’t a handy thing to do whilst taking zoloft. She dropped me back down to 25 until I see my GP. I was just wondering if this is a reaction due to the alcohol or just the drug. I was told it’s a 3 in 4000 reaction to zoloft or could it be unrelated? I have an eating disorder that is why I take the drug for anxiety and was told it may be an electrolyte imbalance? I have no family history of epilepsy etc.

Subj: Post natal depression
Date: 1/29/2008
I started using Zoloft about two months ago for post natal depression. I feel fine now but for the first week or so I felt tired and lethargic and had tingling in my hands and legs. I can’t tell you the difference it has made to my children husband and my life. I too have bad dreams now but this is the only side effect I have. I am worried I may need it for ever and it might effect my kidneys like other drugs do.

Subj: Panic attacks
Date: 2/1/2008
I was on this med for a year after my mom died, and took wellbutrin with it to help with libido. Now I went off it, for 2 months, and had no issues, but then all the sudden had issues and went back on y ativan at night since the panick attacks seemed to happen around 4:00AM, EVERY DAY! The zoloft made me feel nauseated and weird!

Subj: Extremely forgetful
Date: 2/1/2008
Lately, I have been extremely forgetful after my doctor increased my zoloft from 100 mg to 200mg. I have especially been leaving on items that can cause a fire to start. Is this a zoloft side effect?

Stacey

AskDocWeb: Memory problems (amnesia) is listed as an infrequent side effect of Zoloft.

Subj: No energy
Date: 2/19/2008
I was on 225mg of effexor (for 12 months), which made me tired so my Dr switched me to 100mg zoloft-it has been a week since the switch and I am tired and feel like laying around all day, have no energy, I feel worse than I did on the effexor. I take it at night. Could the zoloft start giving me more energy or will I stay like this.

Heather

AskDocWeb: It may take 4 weeks or more for you to start feeling better, give it time to work.

Subj: Stopped taking Zoloft due to hair loss
Date: 2/20/2008
I have been on 50mg of zoloft for about two months. I have mixed feelings about this drug. I had been on it about a year ago but stopped taking it due to hair loss. I also suffered from some vision problems. I have gained weight this time around and although it has a tremendous calming effect, I also feel a bit out of it. While I was not exactly motivated during my depression, I seemed to have had more energy. Sometimes I get a “zombie like” feeling from this medicine. I have not decided whether or not I am going to continue taking it.

Subj: Night sweats
Date: 2/26/2008
I’m on zoloft for a third time now. It was prescribed to me at first in November of 2003 for depression. It helped tremendously. I felt like my old self again. I came off of it when I found out I was pregnant in June of 2004. I did fine and felt wonderful. I thought I’d “beat” the depression. For the first six months after having my son, I noticed I was having panic attacks and they were more often and worse than before. So in August of 2005, back to the doctor I went. He put me back on the zoloft and just a few days later I started feeling great again. I had been diagnosed with depression anxiety/paranoia/post partum depression. He also prescribed me xanax to take during an anxiety attack. In September of 2007, I became concerned with the sexual side effects. I had no sex drive at all. So he changed my prescription to wellbutrin. It felt like I wasn’t taking anything so I completely stopped taking any kind of medicine. In January of 2008 I had had enough and was ready to go back on the zoloft. I take 100mg once in the mornings. The only side effect I have is, no libido whatsoever, and I have terrible night sweats. The night sweats are so bad that I try to keep at least 2 shirts by my bed to change into in the middle of the night. My husband suffers most from me having no sex drive. I simply don’t crave it. And the night sweats are more annoying than anything. Overall I’d say zoloft is my miracle drug. I don’t feel like a zombie on it, and I feel more like I should. If anyone has any idea how I can control the night sweats, please tell me. I’m open for anything. Thanks.

Elisha
