Is there a 150 mg pill of zoloft?
AskDocWeb: No, Zoloft only comes in 25, 50, and 100 mg tablets, although the tablets are scored and can easily be cut in half.
I took 50 mg. of Zoloft for nearly a year and tapered off about six weeks ago before stopping. For the last few months, I’ve had trouble with hives every evening. The itchiness is driving me crazy. Will these hives go away soon? I believe they were caused by Zoloft. Is there any treatment that will work? I’ve taken steriods and prior to that Benedryl. Any suggestions? And how long will Zoloft stay in my system?
AskDocWeb: Just to be sure that you know, the directions say to never stop taking an antidepressant without first talking with your health care provider. In order to find an effective treatment for your hives you should consult with your doctor to find what is causing the problem. The half-life of Zoloft is only 26 hours but since the rate that the body eliminates the drug slows as the amount remaining diminishes, it may take several days to completely leave the body.
Subj: My 2 cents about Zoloft
I stumbled across this forum and thought I’d add my 2 cents. 🙂 I took Zoloft (50 mg) for 3 years. Got pregnant and stopped cold turkey for the duration of my pregnancy. Then went back on it the day after my son was born (same dose). When I started it the first time, it was truly a godsend. It change my life in about a week. I feel I was lucky that the first drug I tried for my clinical depression and anxiety was the right one for me. When I stopped cold turkey, I definately had side effects. Although, I WAS pregnant so it could have been horomones were partially to blame. Mostly, my side effects from halting the drug was MOODINESS. To the point where even my dog didn’t want to be around me. But it subsided with time. I would definitely have weaned if I knew that could happen. Due to relapse of my depression and postpartum, I went back on Zoloft and AGAIN it was a life changer. Only this time I dealt with weight gain and decreased libido. I tried changing to Welbutrin, but it did nothing for me. It made me more anxious. So back on my old reliable Zoloft. The weight gain stopped and I now eat better and work out to correct that problem. And my libido is almost back to normal. I feel like myself on Zoloft. I hate that I have to take a drug to feel “normal”, but I also think I am lucky it’s there for me. There is nothing worse than the debilitation of depression and anxiety disorders. I pray for all who are dealing with this in their lives and urge you to be proactive in taking the steps you need to feel like yourself. As hard as it is. I wish you all the very best. Thanks! and God bless.
Subj: Panic disorder and Anxiety
Hi, I have been taking Zoloft since 1998 for Serve Panic disorder and Anxiety even though I still got Panic attacks mildly. Zoloft sought of kept my mind at one level, I stayed in the same routine for years and felt really good & was seeing a Psychologist (excuse the spelling) then this year 2008 I slowly came off Zoloft over 4 months and still suffered withdrawal symtoms where I thought my head was going to explode. For a couple of months I was doing very well, then came October. I was sick and the Panic attacks started again. It was worst than ever, a vicous circle where I would be vomiting and going to the toilet then after about 5 days I started to come good, then slowly started to eat and then BANG, I was vomiting again and this went on for 6 weeks. I finally got my self to the doctors and was back on Zoloft and will be for the rest of my life. I prefer to take my tablets at night. I still get small Anxiety nearly every day, because I tend to Panic at anything I have to do even cooking, going out, picking up my daughter just simple every day tasks. Side Effects- I couldn’t remember much of them the first time on Zoloft cause it was long ago but now being on them again I have realized I had the following side effects both times. Bad headaches even migrains. Loss of Hair, not in clumps, but webs my fingers. Loss in sex drive, eye sight problems, eyes don’t focus well…tingleing finger tips and feet. I get very Fatigue. I’ve gotten very forgetful, is this a side effect cause I’m not sure. Cheers,
Subj: Excessive hair loss
Zoloft is working well for my depression now, which is funny because I took it before without any result. I do have more family support now and am busy, but I have excessive hair loss and wondered if it was the drug. I color my hair and thought maybe it broke from the chemical treatments but I have colored it for years with no problems. I do love the effect the meds have had so I will probably stay on them and buy a wig if I have to. I will wait and see what is growing back. I have enough hair for two people anyway, but I am down to one now. Hope it stops.
Subj: Zoloft side effects
I have been on Zoloft for almost 4 years now. I’ve experienced HORRIBLE night sweats only in the past year. Could this be a delayed reaction? In the last month, however, I’ve noticed a lot of hair loss and horrible constipation along with 5 lb weight gain (all abnormal for me as I am an avid distance runner). About 2 months ago I switched from the generic to real Zoloft. Could it be that my body reacts better to the generic?
AskDocWeb: There is not supposed to be any difference between the original and generic medications. Night sweats should be brought to your doctor’s attention.
Subj: Zoloft hair loss
Hair loss should be listed as a side effect of Zoloft. Since I’ve been on 50 mg to 150 my hair has been dropping out in masses. I also have problems sleeping.
Subj: Zoloft and skin pigmentation
I have been taking zoloft for over three years now. Started off at 50mg and three months ago increased to 100mg. I am considering laser treatment for permanent hair removal on my face. However, was warned that some antdepressents may cause pigmentation on the skin with laser treatment. Is Zoloft one of those antidepressents that does not agree with laser treatment? Thanks,
AskDocWeb: The idea that any antidepressant might cause changes in skin pigmentation when combined with laser treatments is a new one for us.
Subj: Stopping zoloft
My daughter is 11 and she had general anxiety disorder. She has been on 50 mgs. of zoloft for two years and I want her to stop taking it how would I go about stopping the zoloft completely?
AskDocWeb: Your first step would be a talk with your doctor about what you want to accomplish and how best to go about doing that.
Subj: Drug induced hair loss
I have been on 75mg of Zoloft for 6 months now. I lost 40 lbs the first 4 months which is a “good thing”. The down side is my hair is falling out like crazy. I would like to know if this problem will continue as long as I take Zoloft or if it is temporary? HELP!
AskDocWeb: Most drug induced hair loss is reversible once the medication is discontinued so you may want to discuss alternatives with your doctor.
Subj: 26 years old and I feel 50
I have been on zoloft for 3 years now and I started out on 50mg then after 1 year it was not working so the doctor upped it. This continued over the years and now I’m on 200mg.It works great for my depression for a while then I get used to it so here I am on 200mg wondering what I do when I adjust to it again. For the past 2 years I have had pain and heaviness in my leg and over the past 2 weeks I have developed jerking in my arms, legs and sometime I feel it in my head. I am off balance and find myself stopping right in the middle of a conversation to search for the simplest words. I have lost all energy, my muscles ache all the time my legs are so heavy I am 26 years old and I feel 50 years old. I don’t know if this is from the zoloft or what. I have an MRI this week I will let you know the results.
Subj: Zoloft bald spot
I was put on 50 milligrams of Zoloft by a physician and took it for approximately 2 months. I stopped use after noticing a large dollar sized bald spot forming on the side of my head. Thanks a lot Zoloft makers you’ve made my depression so much more bearable.
Subj: Motion sickness withdrawal
If people are experiencing motion sickness withdrawal after having taken Zoloft, taking an anti-motion sickness over-the-counter medicine such as Dramamine (or the generic equivalents Dimenhydrinate or the non-drowsy Meclizine) will help alleviate those symptoms. I was only taking Zoloft for 6 months but I had to get off the medicine due to a lack of health insurance and being someone who already has a motion-sickness problem, I used the motion sickness medicine I had and it alleviated those awful withdrawal symptoms.
Subj: Lost your sex drive?
If you are taking Zoloft and have lost your sex drive, try the over-the-counter med Pepcid-ac(10mg). Although there are no med interactions noted, between Zoloft and Pepcid, it improved my sex drive. When I stopped the Pepcid-ac the low sex drive returned. Hope it works for you.
Subj: It’s good to be me again
For me, it was a life saver. I started out with 50 mg but went up to 100 mg when I found myself depressed (again) for one week straight. Since then, I’ve returned to who I was before depression, anxiety, panic attacks, PTSD, and yes, PMDD, set in. I hardly ever cry anymore and trust me, that’s a good thing. I don’t get angry as easily anymore either, another blessing. I’ve been on it for 3 months now and due to some side effects, I’m working my way to 50 mg. a day for a while, then to one maybe every other day. The side effects were increased sweating, had to take it in the morning because taking it at night gave me no rest. It sure doesn’t make me tired or fatigued. I do, in fact, have more energy. I have not gained any weight, I actually lost a few pounds. I was yawning a lot too but that has subsided. And my sex drive is still there, if not more so. I also experience no nightmares but rather pleasant dreams. That hasn’t happened in a very long time. But the side effect that bothers me is that at night, I started grinding my teeth and I wake up after hearing a snapping noise in my mouth or jaw or head. So I started weaning by taking 100 mg one day and 50 mg the next. I’m now ready to just take 50 mg. I’ll see how that goes. For me, I can’t believe how lucky I was to try this first and find that it worked. It’s so good to be me again.
