Subj: Tremors and insomnia
Date: 8/12/2009
I started taking Zoloft (the generic) after my son was stillborn in April. It gave me the tremors and insomnia and made me very very aggressive. Can’t handle the tremors so I am going to ween my self off immediately!

Subj: Bitter metallic taste
Date: 8/15/2009
Hi, I am finally coming off zoloft I have been on it for six years I am taking a very low dose of 25mg I cut down from 50mg two weeks ago. For some reason the past three days I have had a bitter metallic taste that comes and goes worsens when I eat or drink certain things. I know that it is a symptom of going on some drugs but is it uncommon or strange to get it coming off of them. How long will this last and why does this happen? I would really appreciate a answer as there seems to be lack of info on this. Thank you,

Zoe

AskDocWeb: The reason for the lack of info is because it so rarely happens. Why it happens is unknown.

Subj: How long do the side effects last
Date: 8/23/2009
My Dr. has started me on 50 mg of zoloft for 6 days then upped it to 100 mg once a day. My questions is how long do the side effects last. This is day 5 and I’m still feeling a little dizzy and tired. Thanks

Laura

AskDocWeb: Reports from users say that side effects lasted for the first 2 to 3 weeks of use.

Subj: Stomach pain
Date: 8/25/2009
I am currently taking zolof I am on 50 m-grams, I was on 100 m grams but my doctor has takin me off of 100 an I am now on 50 m-grams. I am having problems with going to the washroom at leat 8-10 times a day, it worses at night and in the morning. I am also having problems with my stomch hurting as well. Is this a common side effect? And if so what can I do to cure it?

Danielle

AskDocWeb: Stomach pain is not a common side effect and should be reported to your doctor.

Subj: Vivid gruesome nightmares
Date: 8/27/2009
I’ve been on Zoloft for about a year and a half. I am not depressed which is a wonderful thing. The only side effect I have are vivid gruesome nightmares at least 4 times a week. It’s bittersweet. Be happy and have nightmares vs. depressed and no nightmares.

Subj: Cold turkey?
Date: 8/28/2009
I have only been taking zoloft for 10 days can I go off of it cold turkey?

Jill

AskDocWeb: Do not stop taking Zoloft without first talking to your doctor. You may experience unpleasant side effects if you stop taking Zoloft suddenly.

Subj: Hair falling out
Date: 8/30/2009
I’ve been taking zoloft for about 4 months now. I couldn’t really tell the dif. I’m still getting anxiety attacks. And now I’m noticing that for the past month my hair has been falling out. OMG. I’m so scared. Will all my hair fall out? I think I will go to the doc tomorrow or just stop taking it. HELP!

Subj: The bottom line
Date: 8/30/2009
Been on several psych drugs for several years. About 10 years now. Have tried most of them on the market, while my doc and I searched for the perfect “cocktail.” Well…there is no perfect cocktail of drugs. Bottom line…you get addicted! I am definitely a drug addict from prescription drugs! The worst thing about the effects of these drugs is that over these years, I gained over 100 pounds. (Depakote was the worse for gaining weight). Well…a week ago, I found out that I can no longer afford my drugs. It pisses me off ..they get you addicted and then expect you to keep being able to afford them. Drug companies and some Docs are no better than a street drug dealer.

If you can feel better through other means…psychotherapy…whatever…please do it. If at all possible, don’t get hooked like I did. Yes, I felt better on the drugs when they finally got to the correct combination for my specific problems. But now I just can not afford them, and I am always worried that somehow I will find myself in a situation where I can’t get any of my drugs…this is a nightmare.

Once I was off my drugs for 2 lousy days and had horrible side effects. I was taking Seroquel, Zoloft and Klonopin. I just can not afford these any more. About 4 days ago, I stopped the Zoloft cold turkey. It’s been weird. I will feel fine, then all of a sudden, I will get very tired and light-headed. A spacey feeling for a few minutes. Earlier today I felt like I had a fever and I hurt all over. Since I still am taking my 2 other drugs (until they run out), I am able to sleep, but I am having very vivid dreams. The withdrawal effects are not too bad so far. But it has only been a few days. Hopefully, each day will get better. Hope this helps!

Subj: Dreams and talk in my sleep
Date: 9/1/2009
I have been taking 100mg Zoloft for about 3 months. I have dreams and talk in my sleep. I kick my feet and sling my arms around. Could it be the zoloft. My doctor says no but I didn’t have these problems before I started the Zoloft. I took paxil prior to the zoloft.

Peggy

AskDocWeb: Abnormal dreams are listed as an infrequent side effect of Zoloft. If you read the comments it is obvious that quite a few people have disturbing dreams and sometimes vivid nightmares.

Subj: Tinnitus
Date: 9/7/2009
I was on Zoloft (50mg) for about 4 months. I quit on my own by tapering, a week or so at 25mg then about two weeks at 12.5mg. It’s been about a week now with no Zoloft at all. I’m more tired than usual, have tinnutis worse than ever (the steady buzzing is now accompanied by sporadic “chording,” as if the buzzing spiked. Will this ever stop?

Stephen

AskDocWeb: Drug induced tinnitus typically goes away after the drug is discontinued but not enough is known about this phenomena to say how long that takes. You can find more information on tinnitus here.

Subj: Insomnia and lack of appetite
Date: 9/19/2009
I took Zoloft 5 yrs ago for Postpardem depression. It worked perfectly. Absolutely no side effects. I was on 50mg. I took it again after my 2nd baby-again 50mg and no side effects. I am on it again, this time 100mg and had terrible insomnia and lack of appetite for the first month. Now that is gone, but I am losing a TON of hair. I am convinced that the higher dosage of Zoloft is to blame, but if it makes me feel better, I feel it is worth it. I won’t be on this dose forever…

Subj: Benzodiazepines and Zoloft
Date: 9/28/2009
I’ve personally been testing positive for benzodiazepines after taking Zoloft (150mg daily), on six consecutive urine tests. I haven’t had any benzodiazepines for 50 days.

Subj: They don’t tell you this!
Date: 9/30/2009
You feel like zoloft is your soul mate! How deceiving! It turns out to be something that numbs your life to the point of taking YOU away! It steals YOU, as if ti¤e were standing still. You stop caring, feeling, doing, being, KNOWING! When you go off it you are haunted! Those doctors who prescribe these drugs do not explain, they can’t possibly begin! You forget who you are when taking this drug! Just exercise if you are depressed. They don’t tell you this! Exercise works BETTER than DRUGS! No kick off for that info hu?

Subj: I feel the best I have ever felt
Date: 10/20/2009
I am currently on Zoloft and have been for the last 4 weeks…started with 50mg then 100mg to 150 mg and now tomorrow will increase to 200mg…I am taking because of tramatic events that happened to me as a kid and for treatment of PTSD….I also am seeing a psychologist once a week for treatment….I am not sure what the effects of the treatment(meds) will have in store for me in the future but in the meantime along with the counsiling I feel the best that I have ever felt…just thought I would say a couple of kind words to the people who are just starting out like myself….26 years of age

Subj: Had to choose between physical and mental health
Date: 10/21/2009
I have been on Zoloft for about 1-1/2 years after trying many other brands without success. I have been on 100mcg and it took about 2-3 months to take effect. It works very well! The depression subsided & I was able to “function” normally again. I survived several personal tragedies in the last year and was able to move on successfully. Unfortunately, this was at the cost of my waistline. I gained 20 lbs since I started Zoloft (despite diet & exercise & being fit to begin with) & now have health issues related to the extra weight. So, I recently asked my doctor to “wean” me off. For me, I had to choose between physical and mental health, but I definitely recommend it as this may not be as serious a side effect for you.

Subj: Laughable
Date: 11/7/2009
DO NOT TAKE SSRI”S OR ANY OTHER ANTIDEPRESSANTS. These are the big money makers for the pharam companies…..this money trickles down to the MD’s…incentives/trips/money to speak positively about brand x…increase in prescriptions written in the last 10 years has skyrocketed. 7-11% percent sexual side effects? haha. Laughable….try more like 85%. Their money comes before your mental health or happiness. EVERY school shooting suspect was on these meds. Funny how there were never school shootings before these drugs came to market yet back in my day kids had hunting rifles in the vehicles parked in the school parking lot and no one over thought of doing such a thing. You’ve been warned.

Subj: Too much?
Date: 11/17/2009
I’ve been on Zoloft for a week now at 100mg. I feel some paranoid, fear, I feel weird. Could it be the 100mg is too much for me or should I just wait and see what happens?

Me

AskDocWeb: If you think your dosage is too much to handle then you need to talk this over with your doctor.

Subj: Stutter and loss of muscle control
Date: 11/17/2009
Hi, my friend stop taking them and she start to stutter and cant control her muscles. I was wondering is that from the pill or something else? She took it for a year be4 she stop.

Sara

AskDocWeb: It may have been from the pill. Two of the rare side effects of Zoloft are dysphonia and dyskinesia. Dysphonia is a speech disorder and dyskinesia is an abnormality in performing voluntary muscle movements.

Subj: Night terrors
Date: 11/20/2009
I’m actually glad to see other people talking about zoloft and nightmares. This particular journey with Zoloft and I began about 5 months ago (I’d been on it about 5 years ago following a heart attack), and I love the way I feel during the day; 100 mg at bedtime. HOWEVER, I am experiencing night terrors to the extreme, sometimes 6 nights in a row, then none for 2 weeks, then back to waking up screaming (which scares my partner half to death). It’s always the same type of terror too, something/someone rushing at me, I can’t Not scream. It’s making me not want to sleep. But do I give up the rest of my life where calm now rules and I can enjoy being with people?
