Subj: Dizziness
Date: 2/13/2010
I have been on 25mg of zoloft for about 1 month now. Last night I went up to 50mg. I am now pretty dizzy, is that normal? No other side effects, just the dizziness.
Candis
AskDocWeb: Dizziness may indicate a problem (low blood pressure) and should be reported to your doctor.
Subj: Vomiting
Date: 2/27/2010
I’ve been taking Zoloft and Welbutrin since 4th grade, I am now 20 years old and I recently had to stop because every time I would take a dose I would throw up. Is this common? I had no problem before this though.
Rachel
AskDocWeb: Vomiting is not common with Zoloft but it is one of the symptoms of an overdose so check with your doctor about adjusting your dosage or a possible alternative.
Subj: Makes OCD worse
Date: 3/8/2010
I started celexa for anxiety way back and it worked will, but it caused my OCD which I have had my entire life to be worse. So I tried zoloft. I am on it now and have been on it for 9 months. It really helps with anxiety better than celexa but it makes my OCD worse than no antidepressant. It also makes me aggressive at times which worries me.

Subj: Night sweats
Date: 4/6/2010
I have been taking zoloft for about a year now at 100mg, and I have some bad dreams, but it seems like every night I have night sweats and wake up drenched in sweat and its really gross! I have alot of difficulty sleeping as well, and its hard to stay asleep for a long period of time. I also sometimes feel like I cant take a complete deep breath and it freaks me out! I take zoloft for anxiety attacks and it works for that, but just gives me a bunch of new symptems that are really irritating! I dont know what to do since it works for my anxiety attacks, and I dont want to go through that anymore. I have also tried every other anti-anxiety med, and this is the only one that really stops my anxiety attacks completely so I dont know what I should do, please give me some advice.

Subj: Took zoloft against my better judgement
Date: 4/10/2010
Two days ago, I started taking 50 mg of zoloft for anxiety. I felt the common side effects of nausea, dizziness and diahrrea the first day, and was fine with it. The next day I woke up in a full blown panic. I had never had a panic attack before. I thought It was from coming off the drug, so I took my second dose hoping it would “take the edge off” like my therapist told me. The rest of the day, I couldn’t stop pacing, sweating and shaking. I couldn’t do simple tasks and had to stay home from work. It was the sensation of being on top of a roller coaster and not being able to stay still.
I contacted my therapist and told her I wouldn’t be taking it anymore. She said she was “dissappointed that I was ‘giving up so soon'”. The next day I didn’t take the medicine, but still experienced dry mouth, nervousness, and forgetfullness, like forgetting where I was and what I was doing; i.e., Walking into a store and forgetting why I was there, or into a parking lot and forgetting where I parked.
Today, the second day I stopped taking zoloft, I woke up in a worse panic, hyperventilating and crying unstoppably. I also have the sensation of “turning off” in my head in the middle of doing things. This two days after taking two 50 mg doses. When can I expect the side effects to stop? I’m concerned that I have permanent brain damage, which makes no sense due to the low dosage; but shouldn’t I be back to normal by now? My “anxiety” was much more bearable than this. I took zoloft against my better judgement, and am very upset I did.
Paul
AskDocWeb: The side effects typically don’t last more than a few days, although some have reported them lasting up to a month.
Subj: Panic attacks
Date: 4/11/2010
Man! I took Zoloft in like March of 2009 until September 2009. Then something happened where I didn’t have the money to pay for it anymore and also I felt guilty taking a pill to make me feel happy. Anyway, 7 months (today) later I started taking it again. My panic attacks came back with a vengeance. They got so bad I almost fainted at work and that I would have to end up hiding in the linen closet because I was so scared/sweating to death and I didn’t want people to see me. I just started taking them again yesterday and oh my was I exhausted! I took a 2 hour nap and then I slept for 11 hours at night! This pill knocks the wind right out of me! However, I feel better.

Subj: Zoloft tinnitus
Date: 4/14/2010
In December I starred Zoloft. Within 2-4 weeks I noticed ringing in my ears. I also couldn’t sleep and had sweating palms. I discontinued the zoloft under doctors advice and 4 months later I still have tinnitus. Since the zoloft cause the onset of tinnitus should it have gone away since the drug is out of my system?
Sheila
AskDocWeb: Drug induced tinnitus may or may not be permanent. For those who have temporary tinnitus it usually goes away in a few days to a few weeks. If tinnitus persists for more than 2 years it is considered to be permanent.
Subj: Depression and lack of motivation
Date: 4/29/2010
I have been on Zoloft for 2 months now in combination with klonipin. I am on 150mg zoloft and .5 mg klonopin to sleep. I was working 80 hours a week and going to school full time and started having panic attacks. I had horrible insomnia. At first I felt great. The panic attacks are gone but I have depression and lack of motivation, and worst of all, I can’t stop sleeping. I cut back hours at my day job to 12-5, and I can barely get out of bed for work. I need a nap on days that I don’t work at night, and I sleep an average of 12-15 hours a day. I know I have work to do for school but can’t focus or make myself motivated to do anything but lay on the couch. I don’t know if it is the Zoloft or the Klonipin.
I missed one dose of each, I take them at night, because I fell asleep, and the next day felt like I was on some type of hallucengenic drug or upper. I went straight to my doctor and she said it was withdrawal but that it was odd since I am on a low dosage of klonopin and have only been on it for a short time. I don’t know which drug is messing me up or both. I think my initial relief may have been from cutting back my hours at work and feeling less stressed, and I just thought it was the medicine. Every time I tell my doctor how tired and depressed and unmotivated I am, she increases my dosage. She wants me to take 200mg now, but I am so exhausted already that more drugs seems like it will make it worse. I want to ease off of these so I can be me again. Anyone have any advice?

Subj: I became a different person
Date: 5/19/2010
I first went to the doc to seek help from my depression and told me I was bipolar. I went from taking 50mg a day to 200mg a day in two years. In those two years I became a different person. Lost my job of 12yrs, lost my car, my place to live, alot of my expensive stuff that I’ve collected all my life, some of my friends, my unborn baby and almost my girlfriend. I felt like two diifferent people. I spent money I didn’t have on everything and felt bad about it later, then do it again and again. I also landed up in a mental institution for 3 days. I just didn’t seem to care about the consequences of anything. My sex drive also went in the crapper. Most times I’d rather pet my fat cat than make love to her or show her attention, and she’s a knockout. I don’t recommend this drug to anybody. It seemed to help out alot in the beginning but after the first few months all it did was make me think I was crazy with a split personality. Seek thereapy first and if you have to take a ny medication research it then go get a few opinions. I’m still in the transition and hope I regain my life back to become my former self.

Subj: Frequent urge to urinate
Date: 5/23/2010
I have been taking zoloft for two years. Around the time I started taking it, I started to feel like I had to urinate even after I had just gone to the restroom. I haven been to three different doctors trying to figure out what is wrong with me. Last week it dawned on me that the zoloft may be making me have this frequent urge to urinate. I did some research on the internet, and found out it is a less common side effect. I have also had hair loss, which I am now thinking is being caused by the zoloft. I am weaning myself off now.

Subj: Extreme nausea
Date: 5/25/2010
I just started on Zoloft today. I was given the RX by my doctor to gain weight. As I said before today was my first day and within a few hours of taking my first pill I began feeling extreamely nauseated… is this normal and when will it go away?
Amber
AskDocWeb: Nausea is one of the most common side effects of Zoloft. It may or may not go away after a few days. If it doesn’t go away tell your doctor.
Subj: Zoloft is working with me
Date: 6/8/2010
I have been on Zoloft for a months now and The first week I felt like foggy, but after that first week I started adapting well. My symptoms have ranged from trouble sleeping, loss of appetite and nausea. Muscle stiffness, upset tummy, teeth grinding and the jitters. I also have very vivid dreams. Most of my side effects are gone now besides the loss of appetite, but for me, Zoloft side effects can be controlled somewhat. I drank lots of water, took long walks when I would have the jitters and avoided coffee. I took my pill in the morning, so trouble sleeping was no longer a problem at night. I took up yoga for muscle stiffness and changed my diet around to make my tummy happier. I remind myself often that Zoloft is not a miracle, it’s to make coping easier until I gain better skills to deal with depression. I think anyone on Zoloft should be in therapy as having the both is the “best” treatment of depression. For me, being pro-active means not letting Zoloft fix everything, I had to make changes in my life and changes for the better. Zoloft gave me the energy to do this and helped me feel better, so I could be pro-active with my life and find healthy ways to fight of depression. Zoloft is working with me, I am seeing changes in my ability to think clearly and manage feelings. I am on Zoloft for depression, anxiety and intrusive obsessive negative thoughts. My depression is manageable, my anxiety level is way down and I have no intrusive thoughts of “not being good enough.”
