Reducing Zoloft, trying to stop
Date: 6/17/2014
I took Zoloft for over 10 years with no side effects in my 40s. The ONLY way to stop taking this drug is to reduce the dose slowly over a period of time. I eventually got down to 25mg a day from 150mg. You may also go through a period of time on 25mg called “the Zaps” when you blink your eyes. Fortunately it eventually stops. Back on it again and have the shakes at 125mg? Cure?

Review
Date: 10/18/2014
Zoloft changed my life and all of the irrational fears and anxieties I as having. The 2 negatives I can say are decreased sex drive and inability to cry (at sad movies etc which I always use to do!) I have been on Zoloft for 2.5 years. Started on 25 mgs, then 50 mg and now at 100 mg which seems perfect!

Allergic reaction?
Date: 3/13/2015
I took zoloft 25mg for two weeks then my doctor uped my dose to 50mg..when I was taking 25mg I felt great and was loosing weight (I needed to lose). I had taken 50mg for 3 days and then broke out in hives..I’ve now had the hives for a week and a day and they have moved into my throat. My question is since the 25mg seemed to be helping should I go back to using just 25mg or since I’ve had an allergic reaction to the 50mg should I stop it all together?

AskDocWeb: If you suspect that you are having an allergic reaction you need to seek medical attention immediately. You doctor needs to evaluate your condition before determining any changes in your treatment.

Photosensitive medication?
Date: 11/6/2015
Is zoloft photosensitive medication? Can I get laser hair removal or intense pulse light treatments when I am on zoloft?

Achiko

AskDocWeb: Not photosensitivity per se, but it does cause some people to experience blurred vision and/or other visual abnormalities. If this is happening to you, then you need to tell your doctor right away.

Zoloft with Alteril?
Date: 8/14/2016
I take zoloft daily so is it safe to take Alteril all natural sleep aid? Concerned if there is any drug interactions.

Susan

AskDocWeb: One of the ingredients in Alteril is L-tryptophan. In the USA L-tryptophan is known as Tryptophan, which has the possibility of a major drug interaction when used with Zoloft. Using these together is generally not recommended. Combining these medications can increase the risk of a rare but serious condition called the serotonin syndrome, which may include symptoms such as confusion, hallucination, seizure, extreme changes in blood pressure, increased heart rate, fever, excessive sweating, shivering or shaking, blurred vision, muscle spasm or stiffness, tremor, incoordination, stomach cramp, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Severe cases may result in coma and even death.
