Increased risk of allergic reactions
9/12/2012
I was part of a clinical study of Zostavax for those 50-60 yrs. of age, however, after administration of the vaccine I have experienced increased allergic reactions to various foods and drugs, including the ace inhibitors and statins that I have taken for 15 + years. Can this be related?

F

AskDocWeb: To date, there is no known cause-effect relationship for an increased risk of allergic reactions induced by the Zostavax vaccine. However some preservatives in vaccines like thiomersal and 2-phenoxyethanol (2-PE) have been identified in single case reports to trigger allergic reactions after vaccination.

What you are experiencing may be a small part of a larger problem. The number of people with allergies has tripled in the last 20 years and the figure is rising about 5% every year. Whether the cause is GMO foods, chemicals in our environment, or something else, it really needs more research.

Zostavax while on Acyclovir?
Date: 5/25/2015
dear May I take Zostavax if I’m already on Acyclovir tab. Thanks

Zainab

AskDocWeb: Since Zostavax® is a live vaccine, concurrent use with Acyclovir or other antiviral medications (e.g. famciclovir and valacyclovir) may decrease the efficacy of the vaccine. Ideally antiviral therapy should be avoided for 14-28 days following administration of Zostavax®.
