Subj: Serious numbness to the forehead
Date: 11/14/2006
I’ve been following a prescribed subscription for Zyban to quit smoking – but I’m now experiencing serious numbness to the forehead – is this a normal side effect or something else maybe.
Michael
AskDocWeb: This is a side effect and should be discussed with your physician. Don’t wait because the side effects may become worse if you wait.
Subj: Day 6
Date: 11/17/2006
I am on day 6 of using zyban, 150g a day so far. Today is my increase day to two tablets, 300g. So far I have felt relatively normal, apart from a couple of cigarettes which I couldn’t get anything from, smoking is normal too. Quite excited about the increase, will let you know how I get on!

Subj: Still experiencing side effects
Date: 11/20/2006
I was on Zyban for about 4 weeks and have quit smoking for now 3 months. I am a little concerned as I am still experiencing side effects. Mainly my numbness, my concentration and my vision playing up on me. I would have thought 3 months would have given the side effects enough time to disappear, is this still in the time frame? or will these effects last?
Steve
AskDocWeb: It sounds like it’s time to visit your doctor to find out.
Subj: Sick of being sick
Date: 11/23/2006
I’ve never taken zyban but want to give up smoking. From reading all these comments I don’t think I’ll be able to take it because I suffer with panic attacks. Scares the hell out of me. I’ve learned to control them but have a feeling zyban may make them worse. I’ll talk to my doctor. I’m sick of my body being sick from smoking. Wish me luck.
Jodie
AskDocWeb: Good luck Jodie.

Subj: Zyban

After having read the feedback on this site, now I’m getting scared. I need to stop smoking and I have even gone to new leaf in the Nottingham area, but, I also like a couple of pints about three times a week, and the thought of having mood swings scares me as I go clay pigeon shooting once a week so a mood swing as described is a scary prospect, especially when I have a 12 bore shotgun in my hands. I have taken 1 tablet this morning only so any help would be welcome. The fags won’t win but I must be safe.
Terence
AskDocWeb: Your concern sounds seriously legitimate. We suggest you forego use of the shotgun until after you have quit smoking. A couple of weeks without pigeon shooting is a small price to pay for the safety of those around you.
Subj: Many Zyban side effects
Date: 12/7/2006
I started using Zyban 6 days ago and I’m supposed to double the dose tomorrow, from day 1 I have barely slept when I do nod off I am having very intense dreams. Me and my pregnant girlfriend decided to give up together next Tuesday but all I have done is shout at her for no reason whatsoever. I have decided I am giving them up today after ordering an Xmas present for my stepson and could not remember my home phone number or post code. The hallucinations, anxiety and constant stroppiness are becoming harder and harder to control, the slurred speech and short term memory loss I can not control. I am still giving up on Tuesday but cold turkey has to be better than this.

Subj: About every side effect
Date: 12/17/2006
Started zyban 4 weeks ago, side effects started after 1 week. Just about every side effect except for the seizures. Drank heavily before starting treatment cut down to 2-3 beer a day. Has been 20 days smoke free after 34 years @ 2 packs a day. Could do without the side effects but its better than lung cancer or C.O.P.D.

Subj: Trouble taking deep breaths
Date: 12/21/2006
This is my fifth day, I am narky, exhausted through lack of sleep, trouble taking deep breaths and worried about these side effects. I am nervous because 6 years ago I was critically ill due to an adverse drug reaction (metamizol) and almost died. I was in ICU for a month. Could I be more susceptible to serious side effects? Thanks
Kay
AskDocWeb: This sounds like a problem. Anytime you have trouble breathing when starting a new med, you should consult with your physician as soon as possible or get emergency medical help.
Subj: Severe welts and itching
Date: 1/2/2007
On Wellbutrin for almost 2 weeks. Severe welts and itching. Can’t hardly function. Can’t get a hold of my Dr. as the holidays are upon us. Left a message but had to stop taking meds as the itching and welts are so awful! Please tell me they will go away!
Lana
AskDocWeb: Yes they will, as long as you have discontinued the Zyban.
Subj: Zyban insomnia
Date: 1/9/2007
Been taking zyban for a week. Have stopped smoking but cannot sleep does any one know why, or how I can get some sleep. I can’t stand feeling so spaced out. I cant do normal things like go shopping on my own. Zyban is great to stop you smoking, but how long do these side effects last.

Subj: Spent a fortune on doctors
Date: 1/11/2007
A year ago I started to take Zyban to stop smoking. On day 4, I started taking 2 pills a day as prescribed. I woke up the next morning with pins and needles from my knees to my toes. I stopped taking it that day! Since then, over the last 12 months, I have spent a fortune on doctors, specialists, tests, MRIs, et etc. but no one will attribute the ongoing neuropathy in feet (and also fingers) to the Zyban. I remain convinced that the drug caused it. While I have times when it is not severe, it is constant. None of the tests or doctors have been able to diagnose why I have it or what I can do about it.

Subj: Zyban…never ever again!
Date: 1/17/2007
I was on Zyban for 7 days only and thought I was going crazy! My mind was all over the place and I couldn’t stop crying for 2 days! I felt depressed, couldn’t sleep, paranoid…you name it, I had it!! Even now after 3 days I stopped taking them I’m not 100% ok. I nearly broke up with my boyfriend and lost my job because of Zyban! Yes, I have stopped smoking but it wasn’t Zyban who did it, it was my will power and nothing else!

Hi, I’m taking zyaban now for 5 days 17/01/07 after taking them I felt a bit sick I’m still having a few fags (cigarettes) but no where near as many before I started taking the pills… I knew that I could still smoke into the two weeks and then that’s it so when I increase to two tablets on the 19th then I will let you all know about any side effects, up to now though just feel a bit sick but I’m determined to quit as I have not told my kids and husband so it will be a surprise to them.

Don’t think much of zyban, been taking them a week and still smoking same amount as b4.

AskDocWeb: It may be a bad time for you to try to quit smoking. It sounds like the commitment to quit isn’t there yet. Please read the directions again for taking this medication, you may have missed something.
Subj: Zyban experience
Date: 1/25/2007
This is my 24th day taking Zyban. For the first week I felt a little off; I felt like I was not myself, I did not want to socialize, I had vivid dreams, slight constipation and felt like doing nothing. After the first week most of my symptoms disappeared. I guess it took a little bit of getting used to. By the end of the first week I started to dislike smoking, and cut down to about 4-5 per day from a pack a day. I completely quit smoking on the 13th day. I had very few cravings and they were not strong enough to break me. I still have colorful dreams, but I enjoy them, they are not nightmares. This was my New Year’s resolution, along with that was to eat healthy and loose about 10 pounds. I find I have no temptation for chocolate or sweets. Apparently Zyban is suppose to minimize your appetite, so I guess this would also be a good time to go on a diet for those who want to. Since I quit I feel a lot better about myself mentally and physically. I recommend this drug to anyone trying to quit. IT WORKS!
