Subj: My first Zyban
Date: 1/26/2007
Just took my first zyban tablet 1 hour ago. The chemist didn’t have any information leaflet about side effects so asked me to come back in the morning. I started to worry what the effects might be after taking the first tablet so I searched Google and found your sight it’s great for information. The funny thing was whilst reading about people feeling spaced out and itching I seemed to get the symptoms immediately any day 1, a few more to go, wish me luck.
Leigh
AskDocWeb: Good luck Leigh, it’s worth the effort.
Subj: Not smoking
Date: 1/31/2007
Been on zyban 2 weeks. Haven’t smoked in 6 days. That’s really good for me. Plan on staying on it longer than 10 more weeks if all goes well. Slight dizziness and constipation is BAD, but whatever, as long as I’m NOT smoking.

Subj: Zyban side effects intolerable
Date: 2/2/2007
I took zyban for 9 days and did not have a cig for the last three (which is excellent because I have not gone a day without a gig in 12 years) so it did work in that respect. However, I did fell stoned for the first 6 days. Day 7 and 8 I was extremely sad – sobbed and cried for no reason at. Days 8 – 9 I had a terrible rash, woke up with eyes swollen shut and joints swollen so badly I could not walk. Itchy as heck. I also turned into a raving lunatic – very paranoid, angry, sad. Couldn’t work for two days it got so bad. Took about three days to leave my system and now I am feeling fairly normal. I would never ever tell a friend to try this medication – it almost drives me crazy. The mental and physical side effects are intolerable. Not sure how to stop smoking now! I have to do it though, it is really hurting my health.

Subj: Too many side effects
Date: 2/7/2007
I have been taking zyban for few weeks, the first few days were fine, but once I started to go on two tablets. The side effects were bad – I think I experienced every one of them. So I decided to cut down to one, it won’t be as effective but at least I get rid of some of the side effects. I’m only two weeks into it, so fingers cross.

Subj: Zyban success
Date: 2/8/2007
This is my second time taking zyban to help me quit. I stopped smoking using zyban a year and a half ago, I found it amazingly simple. The only side effect I suffered from the first time was mouth ulcers, LOTS of them. I continued with my treatment the ulcers went away and I became a non-smoker. I stupidly picked up a cig on New Years eve and yup…..a smoker I was again. I’m now on Zyban again, I’ve stopped smoking, again finding in EASY. The side effects this time include strange dreams, really cool. Itching and scratching. Very small side effects compared to the effects smoking. Zyban-BIG thumbs up from me.
Lee
AskDocWeb: Benadryl will help with that itching and scratching.
Subj: Urinating more often
Date: 2/19/2007
I started taking Zyban 9 days ago and stopped smoking 4 days ago. I have found that Zyban takes away the short temperament and anxiety that I had experienced other times that I tried quitting. I do find that I have a little bit of trouble going to sleep at night, but I can handle that. I’ve read all of the side effects that can come with Zyban and haven’t experienced any of those. I have, however, noticed that I’m urinating more often. Could this be a side effect?
Beth
AskDocWeb: Yes it could.
Subj: Zyban scared the life out me
Date: 2/20/2007
I started Zyban on 1 per day. By the 2nd day I started to feel anxiety, which certainly wasn’t normal for me, so bad to the point I worried and stressed about everything. I think these were turning into panic attacks. By day 5 I had to stop taking them. I felt like I had started to go mental. I had serious thoughts of killing myself so as not to inflict my mental state on my two kids aged 7 and 9, I stopped taking them and the feelings had lessened but hadn’t gone totally, and now by this time I couldn’t face eating. I just felt nauseous. By day 4 with no tabs I went to the doctors who told me, they wouldn’t be out of my system straight away. This made me feel better. Day 6 without tabs I started to feel more myself. Day 8 off the tabs I’m back to normal and so thankful there were no lasting effects as these had really scared the life out me. (Maybe it’s just my intolerance of anti depressants as I had a similar episode, though with hallucinations when diagnosed with post natal depression 7 years ago.)

Subj: Dry, itchy skin
Date: 2/20/2007
I have been taking Zyban for 2 weeks. 150 mg the first week and the 7th day I started 300 mg. I am cutting down on smoking, but I have very dry, itchy skin. I am concerned that the dryness of my skin may be causing folliculitus. I have gotten 2 boils within the second week and I have never had them before.
Michelle
AskDocWeb: This sounds very uncomfortable. Some people find relief by soaking in the tub to bring out the infection in the boils. A body moisturizer may help but don’t use it where the boils are.
Subj: Zyban dreams
Date: 2/22/2007
Hi, I’m taking Zyban for smoking almost a month now, the first time I took it, it gave me Insomnia pretty bad. This time, since I started to take it I have very what seems to be “real”, like I’m really there dreams. Could that be from Zyban? Could you please write back when you have a chance?
Julio
AskDocWeb: Sorry Julio, we don’t have time for individual responses. Answers are posted so that everyone can benefit. And yes, Zyban could cause some vivid dreams.
Subj: Buy Zybane
Date: 2/26/2007
I am from Roumania and I would kindly ask you to help me to buy Zybane for my husband. He is 46 years old and he smokes since 1978, 30 cigarettes per day. Please let me know how can I buy Zybane! Thank you in advance.
Ruxandra
AskDocWeb: The safest way is to get it from your doctor or health care provider.
Subj: Zyban working wonders
Date: 3/8/2007
I’m currently taking Zyban and its working wonders for me. The only downfall is the fact that my body seems to be suffering from different feelings. Also my head feels rough, but worth the hassle if it stops you smoking.

Subj: Wondering
Date: 4/5/2007
I just feel I want to make a comment really . I started taking zyban yesterday and so far so good! But whilst reading alot of the posts on here and another site I do wonder how many of the side effects could possibly also be related to nicotine withdrawal! Just a thought good luck everyone. Good site will let you know how I get on.

Subj: Will it work again?
Date: 4/6/2007
If you have taken it before and quite smoking for long period or short period of time and start smoking again will it zyban still work for you the second time taking it?
Diane
AskDocWeb: Yes, it will continue to help you quit smoking again.
Subj: Had to quit
Date: 4/7/2007
Wellbutrin worked and I was amazed. I’ve been smoking since I was nine. I had to stop taking it though because I could absolutely not sleep and was turning into a monster from not sleeping. So I’m smoking again. It really did work though it was amazing I felt no craving at all. I didn’t even want coffee and I guzzle that all day too… oh well…

Subj: I went insane
Date: 4/9/2007
I suffer from anxiety and depression. I was on Luvox for quite some time but it created stomach problems then my Dr. put me on Cipralex. I also take Clonazepam for anxiety attacks and sleep aid and Synthroid for a low thyroid. When I started the Cipralex, I was advised against taking zyban for awhile again although it worked for me in the past, quit smoking for 4 months, and somewhat knew about an increase in depression but… So I started Cipralex and Zyban at the same time and after 3 weeks I had already had a psychotic breakdown where I went insane, and at the 3-week mark I was about ready to kill myself. I want to warn everyone that this drug ruined my life, anger was through the roof, depression too much to handle, couldn’t go to work, and I admitted myself to Emergency at the nearest hospital after a medical clinic visit and referral due to my problems being too great. I also experienced major mood swings every few minutes, and the longer it went from that last pill of zyban, the better I felt. DO NOT TAKE this medication anymore if you start experiencing any of my symptoms, I almost killed myself and my friend for sleeping with my girlfriend and I am normally a nice guy who never hurts anyone. I am currently seeking help for the residual effects.

Subj: Small tremor or tic
Date: 4/11/2007
I have been taking zyban for 4 and 1/2 weeks now and haven’t had a smoke for 3 weeks, I am also on patches. I’ve had some small side affects like headaches and dry mouth but I have noticed that over the last few weeks I can’t seem to keep my hands or arms perfectly still, it’s not really a shake more like a small tremor or tic, has anyone else had this? I’m not sure if its an actual side affect.
B
AskDocWeb: You should report this to your doctor. It sounds like your body is able to handle the Zyban.
Subj: Zyban for 8 weeks
Date: 4/27/2007
I started Zyban and was told to take it for 8 weeks. I did the first 2 weeks and smoked and them stopped smoking at the start of the 3rd week. The 1st 3 days of no smoking was hard but I did not have nicotine cravings, I had the desire to smoke because that is what I did. On the 4th week I found no point in taking the Zyban – I had no nicotine craving, so saw no use in taking the tablets.
Side effects – for me brilliant – I am overweight and love to sleep so for me the alertness and slight (only slight) loss of appetite is brilliant. I had lots of things to get done and I did them, but that can also be that I am not stopping to have a fag. Yes I had dreams but nothing like the ones I had on the patches. I haven’t put the weight on I did when I used gum (5lb max – the gum = 2 stone!) – If you are an over sensitive person i.e. 1 paracetamol and you feel high – then don’t take these. If you are very thin – don’t take these – you will waste away and have no energy. You do feel a bit skitty and your heart sometimes races!! but I would rather that than a slave to the nicotine and once the nicotine craving has gone why take the tablets! Now – who has anyone got a magic tablet to make me lose 2.5 stone – I have done the prescription tablets and found I talked alot but still ate like a horse…
