Subj: Terrible insomnia
Date: 2/9/2008
After smoking for 25 years I tried Zyban along with Allen Carr’s method to stop smoking. The Zyban completely took away any cravings after I stopped smoking. It just felt like no big deal. I had terrible insomnia with the Zyban though. I was lucky if I slept two hours per night. I also had frequent heavy night sweats. I took the first pill at 5 am and the second at 1 PM but that didn’t help the insomnia. I finally cut out the 2nd pill. Even though I didn’t feel tired from the lack of sleep, it was disturbing me. The half dosage seemed to work fine. I’m only just over 100 pounds so maybe being small, that’s all I needed. Stopping smoking was worth the side effects.

Subj: Experiencing memory loss and confusion
Date: 2/14/2008
Hi, my last ciggy was 17th Nov 2008,had taken before but kept forgetting to take them as I am not good with tabs. This time I was going to quit. Had the dry mouth lost the craving just after the 1st week, around the 3rd week just felt that there was something missing, it was the ciggys, I had smoked for 25ys, but wasn’t craving and still not. I had been around people that do smoke even family members, was ok over the Xmas holidays even losing a family member just before Xmas, I thought it would be hard but I did get through it all. Still smoke free, I now have been experiencing memory loss and confusion not just the type were you can’t find keys, doing stupid things e.g.: put fabric cond in fridge speelling writting simple tasks so hard and upsetting. Ok example today valentines day opened box chocs had eaten 4 2 mins later rang my partner because I thought he had brought them without no seal on them, so I had to go in the bin to see for my self as I couldn’t remember, as you prob. know the answer was yes I did. I just burst out crying because I was so convinced that they came with out package. Oh well I’ll eat the rest later.

Subj: How to deal with boredom
Date: 2/18/2008
Hi, just began zyban almost 2 weeks ago, so far I have had no problems with it. My quit date is tomorrow, and I really want to succeed. I’m a 42 year old mom, with 3 girls and I want to be here for a long time so I can watch them grow up. One thing I’m having a problem with is boredom. Any tips on how to get through the day? Thanks so much!

Kim

AskDocWeb: Just about any activity will counteract boredom. If your home is spotless and you are prepared to deal with any emergency then get involved with activities that get you out of the house. You could teach your girls how to enjoy life through a variety of activities, volunteer work, church, sports, or even just going for a walk. There are also hand-crafts like knitting, sewing, drawing, flower arranging, or just redecorating.

Subj: Had a seizure
Date: 2/24/2008
I am 59 and have been smoking since I was 14years of age. I started on Zyban nearly two weeks ago one 150mg tablet for one week and then two tablets after that. I was going great I have never gone without a cigarette for more than a day and it was eight days no smokes. Well yesterday lucky I had my wife and son with me we pulled in to get petrol and I was standing at the bowser. I don’t remember a thing, next thing I was on the ground with paramedics and oxygen mask on. My wife and son said I started shaking violently and had a seizure – went to hospital all results were good they said it was a side effect from the Zyban so stopped straight away. So will not take again and I am always healthy and no history of anything like this before and spoke to other people and said they had similar problems.

Subj: Tummy pains
Date: 3/13/2008
I took zyaban about a year ago and everything was fine. Gave up, but started again a few months ago. Well I’m back on Zyaban have been for a few weeks now. But this time round I think its affecting me more! Is that possible?? I’m deressed and silly thoughts (not suicide) also I have had for the past 2 weeks really bad stomach pains, which the docs are saying was some dicloflex I was taking for my knee. (anti inflammatory) but although I was given some gastro – resistant tablets still its not got any better! If any thing a bit worse. Could zyaban cause these awful tummy pains which are making me unable to do pretty much anything? I’m going back to the docs tomorrow and I think I might stop taking them too!

Simon

AskDocWeb: A small percentage of people experience nausea and vomiting but pain in the stomach area is not listed as a side effect.

Subj: The key to stop smoking with zyban
Date: 5/10/2008
I started stopping smoking with zyban since I was forty five. I am now fifty three. I’ve been doing zyban every winter and stopping smoking every time for at least three months. The first time I stopped for five months, but always start up again. It’s not long lasting for me. As far as side affects I think the rashes are from people that have used alcohol in the past few months. I quit drinking way back twenty five years ago, but I do get a couple head aches when getting off the zyban and only once while using zyban. I got the itch between the fingers. The key to stop smoking with zyban is on the fifth day of taking zyban put a patch on. You will not crave a thing good luck every buddy nicotine is a real bugger.

Subj: Still suffering the ill effects
Date: 5/21/2008
I used Zyban for around 3 months, 2 years ago and am still suffering the ill effects! While initially it was an excellent way to give up smoking, I began to suffer panic attacks, anxiety and depression with dizzy spells and palpitations. I stopped taking Zyban on the day of my first major panic attack, but symptoms persisted. I started smoking again shortly after stopping Zyban, and now take antidepressants, but continue to suffer with anxiety and depression. I am 100 percent convinced that Zyban is to blame, as I had never suffered with any form of mental illness previously, nor had any major stresses that could be attributed to onset of anxiety.

Subj: Small rash
Date: 6/8/2008
Zyban Day 6 – I started at 300mg and I feel good besides small rash, but still smoking cigars as much as usual, does zyban work for cigars the same or is it not at full strength yet. thnxs brian

Bdot

AskDocWeb: The directions say to contact your doctor as soon as possible if you have a rash as this may indicate an allergic reaction. Zyban should work just as well for the cigar smoking as it does for cigarettes.

Subj: Insanely vivid bad dreams
Date: 7/8/2008
I started taking Zyban 4 days ago. Today I start taking 2 pills. I’ve been feeling ok so far. Within the second day of taking it I would light up a cigarette and couldn’t bring myself to smoke the whole thing. It tasted completely different and disgusting and it was almost like I wasn’t getting anything out of it. The one side effect I’ve noticed is these insanely vivid bad dreams. I had one last night and 2 separate ones the night before. It’s freaking me out a bit! Anyone else experiencing this? I must say I am a bit nervous to take the second pill later today. But I want to quit smoking so badly..

Rebecca

AskDocWeb: Several people have reported unusual dreams that they described as crazy, wild, vivid, strange, disturbing, intense, and colorful. One person thought it was “kind of cool” but most thought the dreams were unpleasant.

Subj: It’s nasty and dangerous
Date: 8/6/2008
I started Zyban 3 weeks ago and the first week I felt great on week 2 when I started on 300mg I started feeling agitated and paranoid by week 3 I thought I needed to be sectioned I felt terrible losing my temper and becoming violent. Totally oppersite to what I’m normally like, I never touched another one after week 3. Please research into this drug before you take it in my opinion it’s nasty and dangerous.

Subj: Terrible pain in hands that are swollen
Date: 9/28/2008
Have used zyban for over 1 yr. and even though I have lots more control over my smoking I have not stopped yet, been a smoker for 42yrs. The main problem now is that it seems about 4 months ago that the generic welbutrin (zyban) I had been taking was changed to a differant looking pill and bottle, even though all the specs. seem the same, but I have had terrible pain in hands that are swollen 24/7 now and am constanly popping all joints, saw ra specialist but he is not totally convinced that I have ra and I also have burns on fingers as well, no wrist or ankle pain. All old ra tests neg. but newest one that said IF all old test neg. and this one positive then 95% chance of ra. However I have a weak positive (22). My question is COULD it be the zyban, is there some diff. in generic brands and could it cause this, patiturally the small burns on fingers and in between calacus on inside of hands? I know anything is poss. but no one has been able to tell me what I do have. I just decided to stop the zyban yesterday to see, how long for it to be “out” of my system, so as to know if it was it…? More swollen in morn. Heat helps small amount, and I have done two acupunctor treatments so far, but really have not seen any help. My work is very diffucult with 24/7 pain. Of course the docs. have tried 16 days of predisone with no improvement and now been on sufazine for almost 3 weeks now, all otc and scripts have not improved the nagging pain so far…ANY – HELP – HELP – HELP…thank you,

Mel

AskDocWeb: Most of the drug will be out of your system in 3 to 5 days however, it may take a couple of weeks to clear completely. Others taking Zyban have not reported any pain in their hands such as you describe.

Subj: Successful experience with Zoloft
Date: 9/29/2008
I’ve been on zoloft (50mg) for just over a year. It has helped me greatly. Started on effexor (sp?), was HORRIBLE, couldn’t leave the house, only felt okay when with a family member. Zoloft brought back to myself, curbed the suicidal thoughts, sleepless nights, and lack of appetite and anxiety. But now, with weekly therapy, I feel like I do not need the zoloft anymore. I have had a very successful experience with zoloft. Many friends who looked down upon anti-depressents told me they have a different opinion now because of the growth they saw in me after some time taking the pill. My pride made it hard for me to take an anti-depressent, but I am soooo glad for the help of zoloft. I have not had any of the nightmare side effects. I have had nausea and less than firm bowel movements. Hope this is helpful. All of the above testimonials have helped me. Thank you.
