Subj: Burning sensation
Date: 10/15/2008
I started using zyban week ago I am on my second week and I have not had a fag for 6 days now and feel great I find with zyban the thought of a ciggi makes me feel sick, the last few days I have been getting a burning sensation in my throat and chest is this the zyban causing it?
P.S. I would recomend zyban to any one wanting to quit smoking.

Michel

AskDocWeb: The burning sensation is not listed as a side effect of Zyban. If it becomes a concern then check with your doctor.

Subj: Easily irritated, short of patience and violently angry
Date: 10/15/2008
Hello: I am curious to find out if taking Zyban with alcohol DAILY will alter someone’s personality – someone who is quiet & gentle to become easily irritated, short of patience and violently angry??? I look forward to your input and response!!

Deb

AskDocWeb: According to the feedback, yes. And I have first hand experience of that happening to me, only there was no alcohol involved. Fortunately the alteration was temporary and disappeared when the Zyban was discontinued.

Subj: Felt like I had a bad hangover
Date: 10/23/2008
I’m in Australia and they only sell zyban SR 150mg tabs. I started taking 1 for the first 3 days, on the first day I got a headache, the second day I got a bit of a headache, the next day the 3rd day was alright, on the 4th day when I started 1 morning and 1 at night (BD) it made me fall asleep at nightime very quickly but I had the weirdest dreams, I woke up early at about 7am with a horrible taste in my mouth, very dry mouth and dry/bloodshot eyes, I felt like I had a bad hangover all day, and not really hungry (I was still smoking, but not as much) by the 7th day I stopped taking them and I will see if I wake up tomorrow feeling alright if I feel alright tomorrow, I will start taking just 1 in the morning only the following day.

Subj: Sleeping problems
Date: 10/29/2008
Been taking zyban for a week on my 8th day n 4th since I doubled my dosage immediately felt results and it helped me stop alot of other bad habbits as well other than smoking, n I’m haven trouble sleeping averaging about 2-3 maybe 4 hrs if I’m lucky of sleep a day n heart beaten a lil faster. I was wondering if I should stick with the two pills a day, and if I do will the sleeping problems eventually go away? And if they don’t will going back to 1 pill a day help?

Kam

AskDocWeb: Cutting back to 1 pill a day would reduce the chances of side effects but is also less effective. Insomnia is one of the possible side effects that may go away with continued use but if it doesn’t then check with your doctor.

Subj: Little side effects
Date: 12/8/2008
I quit smoking due to Zyban, I use to be a heavy smoker. Zyban worked for me-Thank you so much- I am rid of the nicotine demon 🙂 I will be diving in Mozambique in January and it is good to really breath again!! I had little side effects- My advise to all would be: f you want to quit-get Zyban-smoke for 7 days and then quit. Just stick to the choice and Zyban will do the rest- Zban will help you say No Thanks and control the cravings and the best of all you wont start eating instead of smoking. Good Luck all and take my word for it- it is SOOOOO worth it!

Subj: We can beat nicotine!
Date: 12/10/2008
I have been on Zyban for 13 days now, stopped smoking for 6 days. No cravings as such. Only took 1 tab for first week and then went up to 2 tabs. Insomnia comes and goes but not as bad as it was in the beginning. It has been so easy, I have quit before for 8 months cold turkey and the depression, anxiety etc was still there without zyban. I think a lot of the side affects are actualy withdrawels. Yesterday I started itching and itching. Spoke to my GP and he said I should stop taking it. As this is working so well for me and the itching only started on the 2 tabs I asked him once the rash clears if it would be ok to start again on only one tab and he said it should be fine. But the moment I get a rash again I should stop. So waiting for this rash to go so that I can start taking 1 tab again. All in all the experience on Zyban has been bearable! A bit of insomnia (ok for a whole week) but after that sleeping was ok, dry mouth, headache (only lasted 3 days) is all worth it and I think everyone should at least try it before getting too scared to even give it a go. Everyone is different and anyone should pick up if they are not getting the most out of the zyban and stop using it. Good luck to everyone out there!! We can beat nicotine!

Subj: Shortness of breath
Date: 1/4/2009
I have just started the Zyban. I am on my 5th day. I feel like I have something stuck at the bottom of my throat almost like you swallowed a huge bitamin pill and its not fully desolved, I also feel nautious and I think what I’m feeling is shortness of breath. I’m not sure if this is normal or meaning that I’m having a reaction. Sometimes I feel antsy. They told me to start two pills a day after taking only 1 for the first three days. I don’t know if this is a good idea b/c of how I’m feeling. Can anyone help me?

Tara

AskDocWeb: If you think you might be having a reaction, contact your doctor as soon as possible.

Subj: Half dose?
Date: 1/8/2009
I have been on Zyban now for 5 days and feeling all the normal side effects. I am quiet small in stature and was wondering if the drug would still be successful at half the dose?

Donna

AskDocWeb: The success rates for using half the dose are not encouraging but it is possible. Please talk this over with your doctor.

Subj: All the Zyban side effects
Date: 1/18/2009
I am on day 7 and have experienced all the side effects possible. Headache, sore neck and back, anxiety, agitation, jitters, insomnia, spaced out but I have not had a cigarette in 24hours -cravings are controlled. Took a tablet called Stresam 50mg to try and control the spaced out, anxiety and agitation feelings I have and it works. I take a Stresam 2 hours after Zyban and I really feel that I can cope now.

Subj: Day 9
Date: 1/22/2009
Hi I am on day 9 of Zyban and have had no side affects at all, but I am disappointed as I thought that I would not want to smoke. I must admit that on day 6 the cigarettes did taste like low strength ones, but I am still smoking 20 a day. I was going to quit on day 13 and am still hoping that I just won’t want to smoke. Do you think they are not working for me?

Caroline

AskDocWeb: It takes time for the Zyban to build up in your system. The affects are cumulative so give it time.

Subj: Zyban side effects
Date: 1/27/2009
I had a heart attack on the 09/01/2009, a stent was inserted in one off my artyries. My doctor said I must stop smoking so I got a script for ZYBAN. After using it for 5 days I experienced anxiety attacks, sleeplessness, dizziness, restlessness, shakiness, nausea and some times it felt my heart is beating in my throat. I stopped using the medication due to all this side effects.

Subj: Extreme panic attack
Date: 2/7/2009
I have been on Zyban for 14 days. I had to stop taking this med because on the 14th day I went a tad bonky. I had an extreme panic attack at the same time as I experienced extreme lethargic complete fatigue. It ALL came crashing down on me. Luckily what really helped me to quit smoking was not the Zyban but Allen Carr. Before I was SO anxious about my quit date that I was freaking out. The night that I read Allen Carrs book…I joyfully and finally smoked my last cigarette. I have been a pack a day smoker for 36 years. Hate Zyban….LOVE being a Non-SMoker. Dr’s should REALLY warn you that you are taking the drug du jour….an anti-depressant. The ‘vallium’ of the new millenium. Have a headache- take an AD.

Subj: I went crazy
Date: 2/25/2009
I took Zyban and stopped smoking. First I must say that I had some or other African virus that took loads of antibiotics to rectify, only the next month did I try give up. Zyban worked like the bomb! I couldn’t even handle my partner smoking in the house. But I went crazy crazy crazy! I only took one box, but the months that followed were sheer hell, for family, friends, suppliers and customers. Now, this could be from the bloody virus (encephalitis symptoms) – my hubby wasn’t allowed to take it cos he is an epileptic. I’ve only had a few concussions, no mental illness, but I swear I went nuts. In the end, I stopped smoking for two years, but only got back to myself when I started again. That’s where I am now. I am dead scared to take them again, never mind give them to my husband (this was the plan). Great while you’re on them, but just scary after that. I might add, another one of my stop smoking solutions was to drink and then some, which may have caused the madness. Good luck.

I have a willpower plan that I will use next time, it worked well in conjunction with the zyban and booze, just reward yourself with sweets for every 15m passed successfully. (I got fat after using Zyban and had complete liver malfunction, again, don’t know if this was the zyban as I was drinking excessively. Good luck folks!

Subj: Stop smoking in Thailand
Date: 3/6/2009
I would like to know where could I buy Zyban or some thing really similar to help me stop smoking in Thailand, please could you help me with that cause I can’t find the address on the site. Thank you,

Nan

AskDocWeb: There is no address because we are reporting on the side effects, not selling them.

Subj: Skin irritation
Date: 3/9/2009
I’m using zyban now for 2 weeks. I get a skin irratation in my neck and arm. Will this go away in time or should I stop using it?

Ben

AskDocWeb: Skin rash is one of the main side effects of Zyban along with shakiness, dry mouth, confusion, anxiety, anorexia and dizziness. It may or may not go away with continued use.

Subj: My food is tasteless
Date: 4/1/2009
I took zyban for almost a month, been off of it for about 3 days now. Don’t have a crave for a cig, but my food is tasteless. In fact everything has a bad taste, even water, and this is the reason I stopped taking it. Anyone else with the problem, and how long before you were able to taste your food again?

Michele

Subj: Weight gain?
Date: 4/5/2009
I’m on day 6 of taking zyban. So far I’ve been fine. Slight difficulty in sleeping but that’s about it. I haven’t got to the stage yet where I don’t fancy a cigarette but tomorrow I will start taking 2 tablets. I understand weight gain doesn’t typically happen whilst on the pills but does anyone know if it all piles on when you stop?
