Subj: Concerned memory loss
Date: 12/16/2009
I started taking Zyban last week. I’ve tried to give up smoking loads of times, when I went to the doctor for zyban I had been wearing a patch for a week so really I haven’t smoked for 2 weeks now. The thing is, on my fourth day of taking zyban, I had a work Christmas meal to go too. (I hadnt read the leaflet so didnt know not to drink) I dont drink often but I did this night, I was feeling drunk after just 1 glass of wine! which isnt the norm. Also I have lost 4hrs of my memory from that night, whatever I was doin at the point, I seemed to have forgotten 2mins later, I’m a bit concerned because I still cant remember anything from the 4hrs at all…even when people tell me what happened! Otherwise though, non smoking has been going well. I was feeling depressed for a few days and spaced out but it all calmed down. This is my first day with taking 2 tablets so I’m hoping everything will be fine.

Subj: Zyban side effects
Date: 1/1/2010
Zyban has worked a treat for me. Smoked like a trooper the first week of taking Zyban but could only have one or two drags of a cigarette the beginning of the following week. Now near the end of my third week and I’ve not smoked now for 10 days. I don’t want one and cannot stand the smell of them at all now. Unfortunately though I have suffered side effects. Loss of appetite (not such a bad thing!), slight insomnia, extreme mood swings and irritability and am suffering really badly with itching skin/hives to the point you can’t see anything but red raw lumpy skin. Hoping this will pass soon but still think these side affects are a small thing to bear if it stops me smoking!! I want to be a non-smoker and don’t want to stink any more or destroy my lungs any more than I already have.

Subj: Long term effects from Zyban
Date: 1/14/2010
I cannot believe this drug is still a popular alternative to quitting smoking. I have had long term effects from Zyban, and I had only been on it for about a month. I was PERFECTLY normal, all of my life, UNTIL Zyban! Heres what happened. My body rejected this drug, I developed allergies to it. These allergies, went nuts…suddenly I’m allergic to EVERYTHING. This also affected my entire nervous system…its aweful!
I have an over active bladder, and doctors have no cure for it. I have been on 3 different medications for it. I have had 4 operations for it, and NOTHING has helped me. The think that it is the nerves in the bladder that signal your brain when it is full that have been ruined. These problems with my bladder STARTED when I was taking Zyban!!!! It Screwed my entire nervous system. I am FULL of anxiety!!! And I never had it before. I have loud ringing in my ears, and am losing the sound of a deep base tone in one of my ears. I get wicked chest pains, that range from dull pain, to sharp pain, to constant and quick pain, to long pains. I have dizzy spells regularly. These things affect my daily life like you would not imagine!! But this would take all too long to report!
These people who are saying they love zyban, and to bring on the side effects…you should be careful what you wish for. You think you are unstoppable…but you are not!!!! The drugs in zyban will start to deteriorate certain parts of your system, that you just may never gain back! Such as what it did to me! Be careful. I smoked for YEARS from the time I was 12 – 22. I started smoking again after zyban, and now I am cigarette free. All it took was a passionate hate for cigarettes, the disassociation of hanging out with smokers, not drinking for a few months (because drinking made me smoke more), exercise, LOTS OF WATER to kick the craving, and the occasional nicorette gum, and I mean occasional like I used maybe one package in the box, of the lowest amount of mg. I havnt smoked in 4 years, I have however, been living with all these symptoms for 5 years, since I had first started taking Zyban.

Subj: I’m not sure craziness is a good compromise
Date: 1/16/2010
I started zyban 150mg once per day about 6 days ago. The first 3 days I had terrible headaches and felt jittery. The past 3 days, I have felt spaced-out, nervous, very anxious, a little weepy, and have near constant dry mouth. I have had no decrease in the desire to smoke so far. I am still smoking 1 pack per day. I really don’t want to give up – I have got to quit smoking – but I am afraid that these symptoms will get worse. I do kind of like the way the pills speed me up, but I’m not sure craziness is a good compromise. When will stop wanting to smoke?? I want to take it until I can successfully get through the physical withdrawal and then stop the pills.

AskDocWeb: The patient information for Zyban says that you are to quit smoking within the first 2 weeks. Your desire to smoke should drop when the dosage is increased to 300mg but there is also a possibility of increased side effects. You may or may not completely lose the desire to smoke but Zyban is intended to minimize that desire.
Subj: Very dizzy
Date: 1/19/2010
I have been taking Zyban for the last 6 days. I have been getting very dizzy. Is that side effect going to go away in time?
Jane
AskDocWeb: Dizziness is one of the possible side effect and it may or may not go away with continued use. If it continues or becomes bothersome, check with your doctor.
Subj: Just started today

TODAY I TOOK MY FIRST DOSE OF ZYBAN. Had already quit for 2 weeks in October, after listening to some hypnosis tape and reading Aln Carr’s book…. Then 2 weeks later I began smoking again during a trip to Mexico, and I am still smoking today. I had had this RX in the drawer for 4 months, but I have been smoking so mcuh, that I thought I would give it a try. I took the pill this morning, now it is 6:39 p.m. Not too hungry until I saw food. I drank decaffeinated coffee and stopped at the 3rd. cup, when I normally drink TONS of coffee without effects.
Right now I feel a tiny bit dizzy, more a bit like floating, and an hour ago I had a short spell of sadness and felt like crying because of a sad song, but it quickly went away. As for the fags, I’ve been smoking as usual, more out of habit, but at the coffee shop I was not desperate for a cigarette…right now I am reading reviews on ZYBAN, skipping the negative stuff and focusing on the ZYBAN success stories…we will see how the sleeping goes, right now I do not feel any anxiety or emotional discomfort or any pain or itch…
I AM SURE THIS IS GOING TO WORK!!! I also felt a little tiny bit out of sorts, not bad, just a bit vague and not finding the right words at times…kind of a bit distracted, but this has happened to me before, without the zyban…. I am also a bit distracted thinking of my trip back to the US… God, I hope I succeed without any serious mental damage or severe personality changes. I thought that the side effects cannot be worse than dealing with lung cancer…I’ve smoked for almost 40 years…gosh… Good luck to you all!

Subj: Weirded out
Date: 4/2/2010
I have been taking the Zyban for a little over a month. I was doing fine until this past weekend. I woke up Monday all weirded out to a point I did not go to work. I stopped taking the Zyban and it is now Friday and while now I am not as bad as Monday I am still wigging out. I can not concentrate on anything. At work all week I would stare at my screen and anything I had to really think about was almost impossilbe to do and nothing I read made sense. I forgot to do things like turn off the tv when I went to work. Leaving work the only thing I could remember about where I parked my car was that I did it out side. I am not a talkative person and would find my self talking, not in a bad way but being good but 5 minutes later I couldn’t remeber what we talked about. As a teen I experimented with some pretty strong stuff (Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds). This is almost as bad if not worse because it hasn’t gone away and I haven’t taken any more. I feel like I am going nuts. I also got twitches in my arms and legs. Back in the day I might have enjoyed this but I have to go to work and function.

Subj: Zyban, a magic bullet
Date: 4/23/2010
I was a heavy smoker for the best part of 50 years! I tried several times to quit with no success until I went onto Zyban. It’s now been over 3 months since I stopped smoking and a month since I stopped taking Zyban. My experience with Zyban has been very interesting and highly enjoyable: I started taking one tablet a day (morning) for six days and then went on to two tablets a day (morning and evening). During the second week on two tablets of Zyban, I didn’t want/need to smoke so I stopped despite having a hoard of duty free tobacco left! I noticed that my daytime moods were very good and I could focus easily on any tasks I undertook. Sleeping was very interesting. As soon as I was on two tablets a day, I started to have incredibly vivid, detailed colourful dreams that I could remember. Some were pretty bizarre and others erotic. None were particularly threatening or disturbing. I looked forward each night to the next installment of dreams.
Another thing I noticed while taking Zyban (evening dose) was that I would wake up suddenly five to five and a quarter hours after taking the evening pill. The timing was incredible, almost like an internal alarm clock! I could recall the dreams that I’d had to that point. Getting back to sleep was relatively easy and I would wake to my electronic alarm feeling refreshed. In conclusion, Zyban is a lovely drug and I would strongly recommend it to any smoker who is determined to quit! Regards,
Karl
Subj: Residual side effects
Date: 4/26/2010
I started taking zyban 4 years ago. I stopped taking them half way through the course. 4 years on and I still suffer from side effects. Is there anyone else out there that has residual side effects after so long or longer. Up to now I seem to be quiet unique.
